Norton Factory Studio Manager Position Description

Responsibilities

The Studio Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of Norton Factory Studios as well as long-term planning to establish Norton Factory as the premier fine artist studio building in the East Bay. This position reports directly to the building owner.

Studio Duties

The Studio Manager’s primary responsibilities include responding to tenant needs, keeping the building at full rental capacity, creating new and renewal lease agreements, and ensuring rent is collected and deposited on time. Additional responsibilities include planning and executing biannual open studios events, fostering a sense of community among the artists via quarterly artist meetings, and growing the building’s online presence via the website and various social media platforms.

  • Setting and collecting rent
  • Finding and screening tenant applicants
  • Handle tenant complaints/emergencies
  • Manage studio budget and track expenses
  • Manage biannual open studios events
  • Hold quarterly studio meetings to keep tenants informed on upcoming events, building-related news
  • Moderate Facebook group for tenants
  • Maintain and update building website as needed
  • Regularly post on social media
  • Create and send mass emails to newsletter subscription list
  • Check on upkeep and general maintenance for the building
  • Monitor cleanliness of the facility with limited interface with by monthly cleaning crew

Classroom Duties

The studio manager will also be responsible for creating and organizing a basic arts program and associated advertising for that program. The space will also be used for exhibitions and will be available for rent for artists to show their work, convene crit groups and offer private classes. One goal is to host a weekly figure drawing class. The manager will need to schedule, in advance the use and rental of the Classroom space so as to generate enough income to justify its existence.

  • Create and schedule art classes
  • Create and maintain a web based listing of classes and update calendar
  • Locally advertise art classes and classroom events
  • Maintain the safety and cleanliness of the space
  • Be prepared to monitor some classes and critiques in order to maintain quality control
  • Meet with teachers, artists and potential renters of the classroom space

Qualifications/Skills

  • Prior property management experience
  • Familiarity with Oakland/East Bay arts scene
  • Experience planning and executing events with attendance of ~800 people

Software and Social Media

  • Salesforce or other CRM
  • WordPress or other CMS
  • Mailchimp or other mass email delivery platform
  • Experience with a variety of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, etc.)
  • Experience posting as a business on social media platforms
  • Photoshop/Illustrator

This is a part time position requiring apx 30 – 40 hours a month. Compensation COE.
